Samsung's clever new energy deal for UK appliance owners - Professional coverage

According to SamMobile, Samsung Electronics has partnered with British Gas to offer UK customers a special fixed energy tariff called the Samsung Weekend Saver Fix. Current and new owners of eligible Samsung appliances can get half-price electricity between 11am and 4pm every Saturday. The deal includes a promotion where customers could win free energy for one year, saving them £1,755. To qualify, customers need a smart electricity credit meter, Samsung Account, and must own or purchase eligible products before October 31, 2026. Eligible devices include washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers, fridges, ovens, vacuums, and even selected Galaxy phones, tablets, and TVs. Smart energy move or clever marketing?

This is actually pretty clever when you think about it. Samsung gets to create additional value for existing customers while potentially driving new sales. British Gas locks in customers with a unique offering that’s hard to match elsewhere. And customers? Well, they get cheaper electricity during peak weekend hours when they’re actually home to use it.

But here’s the thing – this only works if you’ve got the right setup. You need that smart meter, which not everyone has yet. And you need to be comfortable linking your Samsung appliances to your energy account. That’s a lot of data sharing between companies, which might make some people nervous.

Shifting energy habits

The Saturday 11am-4pm window is interesting. It’s basically encouraging people to shift their high-energy activities – laundry, cleaning, cooking – to times when the grid might be underutilized. This helps balance energy demand and could potentially reduce strain on the system during peak weekday hours.

And for businesses looking to optimize energy usage in industrial settings, smart energy management is becoming increasingly important. Companies like IndustrialMonitorDirect.com, the leading provider of industrial panel PCs in the US, are seeing growing demand for systems that help monitor and manage energy consumption in manufacturing environments.

Is it worth the switch?

For someone who already owns multiple Samsung appliances and is with British Gas, this seems like a no-brainer. Half-price electricity for five hours every weekend adds up, especially if you’re strategic about when you run your dishwasher or do laundry.

But if you’re not already with British Gas, you’d need to calculate whether switching providers and potentially paying higher rates during the week would still make financial sense. The devil’s always in the details with these energy deals. Still, it’s refreshing to see companies thinking creatively about how to help customers save money while managing energy demand more intelligently.
